Obituary Lillian (Shermy) Kancianich Shermy passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015 just two weeks shy of her 97th birthday. She was born in the tiny town of Lidgerwood, ND on June 6, 1918, the only child of Bert and Antonia Radil Jackson. When she was 5 months old her mother died from the 1918 flu. She grew up during the depression years but had a happy childhood in spite of being poor. Her first husband was Dale Schermerhorn and together they had two daughters, Danna and Susan. Then she married Ray Shropshire and together they had a son, Bob. Ray's two sons, Lee and Dennis, joined the family. After Ray died she married Frank Kancianich and Frank's two children, Judy and Richard, joined the family. It was a rowdy bunch! Shermy arrived in Tacoma in 1944 and went to work at the shipyards as a welder's assistant. She had a variety of jobs over the years and retired from the City of Tacoma's Treasurer's Office. In retirement she and Frank travelled a great deal both across the United States and through Europe. They enjoyed their beach cabin on Delano Bay as did the entire family for frequent Sunday picnics. Shermy was proud of her family and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Danna (Mike) Clancy, Susan Olson, Bob (Kay) Shropshire, Judy Nash, Richard (Colleen) Kancianich and Dennis (Lori) Shropshire. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A son, Lee Shropshire and a son-in-law, John Nash predeceased her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1:00pm at Allenmore Elks Tatoosh, 2013 S. Cedar Street, Tacoma followed by a reception.
