Obituary Leonard Eugene McCarthy went to heaven on July 5, 2007. He was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma to Morris and Cora McCarthy on April 2, 1923. Leonard joined the Army and saw action in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Upon his return from the service he entered trade school and became a meat cutter. Leonard was fondly known as "Mac" by many of his fellow co-workers and even owned his own meat market for some years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter his entire life. Leonard also enjoyed gardening and had one of the most beautiful yards in the neighborhood. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and siblings as well as his son; Leonard Eugene McCarthy, Jr. and son-in-law; Randy Foster Leonard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 37 years, Lillian; his daughter, Cindy (Gene) McGrath of Nevada; his son, Bill McCarthy of Tacoma; step-son, Alan (Lynda) Biggs of Shelton; step-daughter, Nancy (Peter) Pagni of Gig Harbor; four grandchildren, Keith Foster, Scott Foster, Brandy McCarthy and Amber McCarthy and four great-grandchildren, Randy, Kelliann, Haley and Jordan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A rosary will be held Monday, July 9, 2007 at 7:00 pm Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7112 S. 12th St., Tacoma, WA reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Franciscan Hospice, P.O. Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401-1502.
