Leona Marie Allgeyer

December 29, 1917 — July 6, 2011

Obituary Leona Marie (Shearmire) Allgeyer, born on Dec. 29, 1917, sixth and last child of Fred and Martha Shearmire of McKittrick, MO, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in Tacoma, WA. She met her husband, Guy H. Allgeyer, in high school in Hermann, Missouri, and they were married for 55 years before Guy passed away in 1996. She is survived by three daughters: Rebecca Wells (Ken Dewar, Aurora, IL), Bonny Brewer (David, Seattle, WA) and Barbara Fox (Leslie, University Place, WA). She is also preceded in death by son-in-law David Wells. The Allgeyers have 5 grandchildren: Paige Lundquist (Bob), Heather Wells-Holtey (Brooks Holtey), Brian Fox, Eric Fox (Courtney) and Lindsay Fox. There are 4 great grandchildren: Nate and Zach Lundquist, Hayden and Ella Holtey, and another great granddaughter is soon to be born to Eric and Courtney Fox. Leona excelled as a wife and mother: she will be remembered for her great skills in the hearth and home, for her capacity for listening and caring, for her undying support for friends and family, and for her innate intelligence. She and Guy spent most of their married life in Toledo, OH, and Alton, IL, before retiring to Edmonds, WA. They later moved to Tacoma. The family will hold private burial services at the Holyrood Cemetery in Edmonds. They wish to acknowledge the wonderfully supportive staff at Laurel House Recollections who cared for Leona like a special member of their own family. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Leona's name would be encouraged to send it to the Franciscan Hospice in Tacoma. Please leave online condolences at www.GaffneyCares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
