Obituary Lena Almquist (Cvitovich) Lena was born on Aug. 8th, 1913 in Bol, Croatia, the first of four children born to Kate and Toma Cvitovich, and passed away Oct. 1, 2006. They migrated to America when Lena was 6 months old, and settled in the "Old Town" district of Tacoma. She married Harold Almquist and raised two children: Harry and Dolores. She was employed by Brown and Haley, Fairliner Boats, and retired from Les Davis fishing. She was very self supporting and independent. Lena was an exceptionally good cook and would prepare fabulous desserts for friends and family. Lena loved cooking, music, movies, dancing, Jack LaLanne, card night friday functions at the senior center and Holy Cross parish, and baseball (she met the Babe) and mostly her family. Although she always said she hated yardwork, she spent many hours maintaining a beautiful park-like yard. She was an inspiration and always had a smile for every one she met. Lena was the matriarch of the family. Predeceased by her children Harry Almquist and Dia Baldasare, and sisters, Pearl Vitalich and Katherine Wooly. She is survived by her brother Steven Cvitovich, her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Sat., Oct. 14th, 10am, Holy Cross Catholic Church. Vigil service and viewing Fri., Oct. 13th, 7pm at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
