Larry R Calkins

Larry R. Calkins was born February 3, 1933 to Ray and Catherine Calkins in Tacoma and passed away on April 27, 2021 at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima. Larry attended Bellarmine Prep where he was a 4-year letterman in Football, graduating in 1952. After high school Larry served in the U.S. Air Force for four years including active duty in the Korean War. Upon returning to Tacoma, Larry attended Bates Vocational Technical School and became a machinist. Larry worked at Globe Machine Manufacturing Co. for 40 years, 30+ as a Supervisor. Larry married Joan M. Sabol on November 29, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Tacoma. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2019. Larry was preceded in death by his beloved Joan Marie, his parents and brother-in-law and friend Gary Sabol. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Kristy, grandson Shawn and sisters-in-law Sally Kirsch and Nancy Sabol. A Funeral Mass will be held on May 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel (1002 S. Yakima Ave. in Tacoma) with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Larry’s family would like to thank the staff at Fieldstone Memory Care in Yakima for their incredible care and compassion over the past 15 months.
