Obituary Kathryn Louise Bailey Katy was born in Yelm, Washington, on April 12, 1922 to Joseph and Elizabeth Hammerschmith and died on October 1, 2015 at Tacoma Lutheran Home. She spent her early childhood in Yelm and moved with her family to Tacoma at the age of 12. She graduated from St. Patrick Grade School and Aquinas Academy (Class of 1940). Together they had 10 children, 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. As a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish, she was involved in the Sacred Heart School Mothers Club and the Altar Society. She directed the choir at Sacred Heart Church. She bowled in several leagues. She traveled throughout the US with her husband and cheered northwest college and professional sport teams, especially the Mariners. She particularly enjoyed live musical performances and plays at the Pantages or in Seattle. She was proud of her large family, her northwest roots and her German heritage. She cherished her Catholic faith and her childhood in a lumber camp in Yelm. Katy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; son-in-law, Don Batchelder; brothers, Ray, George and Clarence Hammerschmith; sisters, Evelyn Hale and Sister Victorine Hammerschmith O.P.
