Kathleen Bernadette McGoffin (McElwain)

Passed away on February 3, 2025, in Tacoma, WA. She was born on February 12, 1929, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to the late Thomas and Mary McElwain (Williamson). Kathy was the loving wife of Keith D. McGoffin. They were married on June 23, 1956, in Spokane, WA. 

Kathy attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Stadium High School, graduating in 1947, University of Puget Sound and Knapp Business College. Her secretarial career included work for Weyerhaeuser and the City of Tacoma prosecutor’s office, where she met Keith. When they married, she became a devoted homemaker and mother of four children. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s Club and St. Charles Borromeo Church. 

As a young woman, Kathy was a stunning beauty with black hair and sparkling blue eyes. She loved to dance and play the piano. She will be remembered for her quick wit, beguiling laugh, and the Irish twinkle in her eye. She was very proud of her children and their families. Kathy enjoyed hosting parties. Irish whiskey and soda bread were served along with her remarkable conversation. She always remembered her friends and family with a handwritten card and Johnson Candy Company treats. 

Survivors include her husband Keith, daughter Teresa McGoffin of Hailey, ID, son Kevin McGoffin (Mary) of Sedro Woolley, WA, daughter Lisa Roth of Walla Walla, WA, and son Sean McGoffin of Tacoma, WA, granddaughters Alison Bray (Lily) of Seattle, WA, Laura Schaffner (Chris) of Sedro Woolley, WA, Kathryn Lee (Mike) of Lakewood, WA, grandson Brendan McGoffin (Vivian) of Sedro Woolley, WA, and grandsons Elias Roth, Nicholas Roth and Jacob Roth of Walla Walla, WA. Nine great grandchildren: Bryson, Ethan, Emily, Elizabeth Schaffner; Alexander, Mathew, Nicholas Lee; Maria and Xavier McGoffin.

A Funeral Mass and reception will be held on February 28th, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Tacoma, WA. In lieu of flowers, donate to McGoffin Family Endowment Fund at Bellarmine.
