Joseph Frank Aversa

August 3, 1924 — July 7, 2011

Obituary Joseph Aversa, loving husband and father, passed away on July 7, 2011, at the age of 86. Joe was born August 3, 1924, to Joseph and Rose Aversa in Baltimore, MD. Joe met his wife, Rose, in a 5 and 10-cent store and they were married in April 1947. They had one daughter, Rosemarie, who has always been the joy of their lives. In 1992, Rose and Joe moved to Tacoma, WA, to be closer to their daughter and her family. Joe was an all-around good guy and a delight to have around. He enjoyed playing poker and doing a little gambling at the casino, but more than that, he enjoyed "dad days" with his daughter. He was a great teller of jokes and stories that he would tell over and over and we would never mind hearing them again because they were always funny no matter whether it was the first or the tenth time you heard it. Joe is survived by his daughter Rosemarie and her husband, Michael; and, granddaughter, Jennifer. He is also survived by one sister, Frances Giunta, and one brother, Thomas Aversa, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rose, in March of this year so they are once again together forever. Viewing and rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Gaffney Funeral Home, 1002 S. Yakima Ave., Tacoma. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7112 S. 12th St., Tacoma. Burial will follow at New Tacoma Cemetery. Donations can be made in Joe's name to The American Cancer Society. Please leave online condolences at www.GaffneyCares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
