John Joseph White

Obituary John J. (Jack) White Jack was born May 28, 1927 in Tacoma, WA and passed away on February 28, 2007. A member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, he worked for Cartozian's Fine Carpets and Rugs as a highly skilled and sought-after carpet layer, and was a member of Carpet, Linoleum and Soft Tile Layers Union 1238. Jack attended Stadium High School and was an athlete and sportsman. He belonged to the Tacoma Elks Lodge and continued to use the swimming pool and other equipment, until recently. Jack traveled with friends to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico. A well-known icon in the Proctor area, Jack could be found breakfasting at Knapp's, watching and talking sports with his buddies at the North End Tavern, though he gave up drinking long ago, and enjoying his treats at Metropolitan Market on a daily basis. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Nora White, Jack is survived by his brother, Gerald F. White, a nephew, Jerry White (Teri), two nieces, Carey Nyman (Dave) and Donna Stanley (Randy), cousins John Daly and Nora Chris Boze. He is also survived by many great nephews and great nieces. Rosary will be held at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 11:00 am with reception following in the church hall. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who worked with Jack at Tacoma General Hospital over the last two months.
