Obituary John Bertram Troup John (Bert) passed away with a full moon guiding his path in the morning of March 12th. Son of John and Emma Dyer Troup. Born June 23rd, 1928 in Hoquiam, Washington. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School, Aberdeen, attended St. Edwards Seminary, and graduated from Bellarmine Prep, served in the US Marine Corps, graduated from Seattle University and Gonzaga University Law School. In 1954 Bert married Betty Fleischmann, walking partners for 54 years. He began his career with Northwestern Mutual Insurance in Bellingham; he was admitted to the practice of law in both Washington State and in the local federal courts, opening a Tacoma law firm in 1957, partnered with George Christnacht and eventually the firm became Troup Christnacht Ladenburg McKasy & Durkin. He was the 1984 President of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association. He served four years as a member of the Washington State Higher Education Personnel Board and three terms on the Washington State Bar Association's Committee on Professional Conduct and on Unauthorized Practice of the Law. He was a member of the Puget Sound Inn of the Court. He was the recipient of the 2004 Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association Lincoln award. He was a longtime parishioner of Holy Cross; member of Serra Club, Knights of Columbus and served on the board of the Friends of Tacoma Dominicans. Additionally he served as the 1992 mayor of his beloved Northilla Beach on Vashon Island. Survivors include his wife Betty Fleischmann Troup, four children: John (Peg Staeheli), Kathryn Troup (Albert Greenberg), Mary Nordi (Scott), and Carol Troup (Pete Johnson); grandchildren Rita and JT Troup, Emma, Alice, Molly and Joanna Greenberg, Nicole and AJ Nordi, Torben and Vincent Johnson; brothers James Troup (Edith) and Francis Troup (Della); sisters-in-law Eileen Hines, Lucille Fleischmann, and Dorothy Fleischmann; and many nieces and nephews. Rembrances: American Parkinsons Disease Association or Bellarmine Prep. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday March 16, 2009, 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church; Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 15, 2009, 7:00 pm at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel, Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
