John M Sanborn

Obituary John Sanborn 1921 ~ 2008 John was born in Philadelphia on Feb. 17th, 1921. He attended Good Shepherd Catholic School and graduated class of 1940 from West Catholic High School. In 1942, he joined the US Army Rangers. He shipped out to England with the 9th Infantry Division in July of 1944. He was a Sergeant in a Mortar Company and has battle ribbons for Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. In 1947, John married Dorothy C. Downey. They had 6 children: John Jr., Stephen, Robert (died 1995), Kevin, Thomas, and Mary. John and Dorothy are also blessed with 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. John worked for Allen, Lane and Scott Printers as a Compositor Printer for 32 years before moving to Tacoma, WA in 1978. He worked for St. Charles Catholic Church for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2000. John died peacefully at home on Friday morning, February 8th 2008, surrounded by his family. He had been fighting cancer for several years. A loving husband and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Catholic Church. Viewing will be held prior to Mass at 10:00 am. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
