John R. Klein CWO2 died on December 4, 2024, at the age of 94.
John was born on July 7, 1930, in Saint Paul, Minnesota and was raised in Grand Fork, North Dakota. He attended schools in North Dakota until his family moved to Washington State, where he graduated from White Swan High School.
After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. John served in the military for 21 years, retiring from the Army. John served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Military life brought the family many adventures and travels across the United States and around the world. Often times, the military returned John's family back to Larson AFB, in Washington State. Washington State became home to the family after his final station at Fort Lewis.
John married his lovely wife, Genevieve Dosch, in 1954. Together they raised 11 children, and as a couple they enjoyed traveling. John and Genevieve were married for 57 years.
John was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and was a parishioner of Visitation Parish for 56 years. John was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He held many offices in the KofC both locally and nationally. His most notable positions were Grand Knight; Faithful Navigator; District Deputy; State New Council Development Chairman; State Officer Chairs; District and Vice Supreme Master. After 67 years as a dedicated member, the fraternity awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award.
John is survived by his children, Brenda, Timothy, Cynthia Stabbert (Paul), Gregory (Patricia), Diane Stone (Steven), Michele Olsen (Douglas), Keith (Jamie), Nancy, Jeffrey (Claudia), Sonja Dooley (Glenn), and Larry. He is also survived by his brother Raymond (Kathy), 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve, parents, Raymond and Helen (Norman) Klein, brother, Kenneth Klein, and his granddaughter, Alycen.
Funeral Services will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 11:00 a.m. at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Lakewood, Washington. His interment, with full military honors, will be Monday, December 16, 2024 11am at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Visitation Catholic School.
