John Duras

June 17, 1919 — January 5, 2011

Obituary John Duras, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL in 1919 to Czech immigrants. John is survived by his precious wife Norma, whom he adored; 3 loving children, Dr. Steve (Patty) Duras, Greg (Nadine) Duras, and Ann (Michael) Brewer, as well as many grandchildren who will forever miss his kind and caring presence, John showed his family and all who knew him that hard work, honesty, generosity and faith in God are the greatest attributes a person can uphold. He served in the US Army in the South Pacific during WWII then returned to raise his family in Tacoma eventually becoming the proud owner of the Jubilee Hamburger Restaurant on 38th Street in 1972. He served the best hamburger and french fries in the greater Tacoma area to his many loyal customers for 27 years. John was the recipient of the Washington State Restaurant Association's Man of the Year Award in 1992. He served on the executive board of the association and would often appear in front of the Legislature to discuss restaurant business issues. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dear caregivers at Olympic Alzheimer's Care Facility and also to the Franciscan Hospice Team. A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, January13, 2011, 1:00 pm at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
