Joel Collin James Teats

On May 5, 2023, Joel Collin James Teats went home to his heavenly father after suffering from septic shock which caused multiple organ failure. He was born in Everett, Washington on October 5, 1992 to Mac & Sharon Teats. He was raised in Richland, Washington with his sister, Leah. He graduated from Richland High School in 2011, where he played football as a Bomber. He attended Pacific Lutheran University, majoring in sociology and minoring in history, while he also played football for the Lutes. He graduated in 2015. After coaching the Richland freshman football team and working for the Boys & Girl Club of Tri-Cities for a year, he began grad school at Eastern Washington University in 2016 and graduated with a Masters of Science in Counselor Education in 2018.

Joel’s dedication to children continued in South Kitsap School District where he served as a middle school counselor for four years. Throughout his time there, he helped enrich the lives of the youth and served as an advocate for them. He also coached football and was especially dedicated to those starting their football career. Most recently, he had started a job as a Youth Education Advisor at the Metropolitan Development Council in Tacoma, Washington where he was training to help students at local high schools with college applications, financial aid, and career opportunities. He was set to begin a second job in May with Skyhawks so that he could continue to follow his passion for coaching children.

Joel’s passions were more than coaching – he had a dedication to help children through mentorship, he loved history (especially the Civil War and WWII), being a Seahawks & Kraken fan, cooking for friends & family, reading, movies, video games, and backpacking with friends. He also loved cats – his favorites being Khaleesi & Smokey.

Joel is survived by his long-term partner Jillian Stanphill, his parents, Mac & Sharon Teats, his sister, Leah Macias Larios (Jordan), Grandpa Jim Conrod (Lois), Aunt Becky Mast (David), Aunt Lori Conrod (Jim), Uncle Dan Conrod, numerous loving cousins and many wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandma, paternal grandparents, his Uncles Paul & Jim Conrod, Uncle Doug Coleman, and cousin Micah Coleman.
