Obituary Jeanne LaClede Moyer (Hohenleitner) January 30, 1929 ?" April 20, 2009 In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen! On Monday, April 20, 2009, our mother began a new journey. In her last hours with us, she prepared for her passage by sharing her love for her children (Peter, Charles, Michael [aka Andrew] and John), daughters-in-law Mary (Mello) and Concepcion (Cadelina), two sister Annamerle and Lois Hohenleitner and her friends, especially Ruth Neher and Janet Mello. As she was setting out, she also received the nourishment of the sacraments and prayers for the dying. Jeanne was the youngest daughter of William Joseph and Marie LaClede Hohenleitner (Kreider) and began her life in Portland, Oregon on January 30, 1939. Mother grew up in La Grande, Oregon and at a very early age worked the counter at the "Mrs. Hohenleitner Bakery". Her early schooling and experiences led her to pursue nursing as a vocation, spending the vast majority of that service at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma. While attending Seattle University in the mid-fifties, mom met a shy and honorable man, Ardelle Moyer, and their time as husband and wife began at Holy Rosary Parish on April 23, 1955. They were to spend the next twenty-seven years together, sharing their love with their four sons and friends until his death separated them. A University degree, a profession in nursing and an attempt at gaining an MA to teach nursing all point to a woman who was ahead of her time. Though she embraced a changing world in terms of its role for women, she remained rooted in her Catholic faith and her family. Mom's many loves included The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the American Conference of Catholic Women, traveling, volunteering, reading, music, cooking, card parties and anything that involved people. The last years of mom's life were to involve great joy and sorrow. Grandchildren (Jacob, Gabrielle, Alex and Rebecca) and her work with children at Holy Rosary School were bright spots. Physical decline, exacerbated by the onset of kidney disease and eventual dialysis, was a great challenge. To the very end, mom strove to live life fully, employing all of the wisdom, with and grace that she had been given. It is simply impossible to thank everyone individually here who has played a role in these last days. We would, however, like to recognize the care exercised by Dr. Thomas Martin, Carol Kinzner and the staff at the St. Joseph's Renal Unit, as well as Dr. Kelvin Krank, Sarah Larson, Patty Fuchs and the staff of Intensive Care. We would also like to thank the many priests and parishioners at Holy Rosary for welcoming mom into their lives and helping her to grow in faith. Both St. Joseph Hospital and Holy Rosary Parish were a part of mom's life for over fifty years. A Rosary will be offered on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 512 South 30th Street, Tacoma. The Mass of Christian Burial will also be celebrated at Holy Rosary on Tuesday. April 28, 2009 at 10:00 am with open casket viewing one hour beforehand. The Reverend John Wilkie will be the Principal Celebrant. Entombment will be at Calvary Cloisters. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to contribute to the renal unit at St. Joseph Hospital, Holy Rosary Parish/School or any other life-giving organization. Requiescat in Pace.
