Obituary On December 18, 2018, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed peacefully as a result of a short and brave fight with ALS. Jean Catherine (Harrison) Gobel was born May 29, 1934 in Tacoma, WA. She graduated from St. Leo's high school in Tacoma and on May 14, 1955, married the love of her life, Francis Ernest ‘Red' Gobel. Red and Jean spent 53 years together enjoying bowling and drag racing before his death in 2009. Jean spent most of her career working civil service in the Purchasing Division at Ft Lewis. She retired in June 1989 after 34 years and enjoyed filling her days spending time with family and friends, gardening and researching the many branches of her family tree. Jean loved to read and was an avid fan of the Outlander series. Jean is survived by her daughter Theresa and husband Scott and her two granddaughters, Haley and Erin who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn, brother Tom and extended family in the Tacoma area. The family wishes to thank faithful family and friends whose frequent visits helped brighten Jean's days and all of the wonderful people of the local ALS Association, St Joe's ALS clinic, Visiting Angels and the Weatherly Inn for their care, support and guidance through this difficult time. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Lakewood, at 11:00 am, Friday, January 4, 2019, preceded by Rosary at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jean's name are suggested to the ALS Association, Evergreen Chapter, 19226 66th Ave S Ste L-105, Kent, WA 98032 (www.ALSA-EC.org) or the charity of your choice.
