James Kors

January 1, 1970 — November 18, 2005

Obituary James Kors Born August 16, 1926, died November 18, 2005 of cancer. "I was born at home, residing in Valley Stream on Long Island, New York. After graduating from Port Washington, NY High School in 1944, a two-year tour of duty was spent in the Navy training to be a radioman/gunner aboard a patrol bomber. Lucky for me World War II ended before I saw action. I was never able to find out how brave I might not have been. Following discharge, a degree in Civil Engineering was obtained at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. It was there that I met Ruth. We were married in my junior year, and she ultimately became the mother of our 8 children: Jim, Jeanette, Jeff, Jerry, Joe, Josh, Jill and Jay, with 7 now residing in Tacoma, and Jim in Michigan. Following graduation, Ruth, I and little Jim moved to Tacoma where I spent the first 5 years with the engineering division of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. From 1955 to the present I pursued a career in consulting engineering, having worked at Whitacre Engineers, Sleavin & Associates, Sleavin-Kors and as Kors Engineering since 1975. I also leave behind 21 of the most beautiful and handsome grandchildren imaginable. And now comes the fun part. I found out that I could save $107 in printing costs by not listing all the organizations that I have been active with and honors that may have been bestowed upon me. (Does anyone really care?) Fortunately, no one has predeceased me, so as the patriarch of this clan begotten unto Ruth and myself, I am now the first to have ventured on to other adventures--- which is as it should be. If you wish to say 'Hey, Jim, have a comfortable trip,' would you do so by helping to educate future minds c/o Bellarmine Prep. Thanks. It was an enjoyable visit." Funeral service Fri. Nov. 25, 2005, 3:00 PM St. Leo's (South 13th & Yakima); wake to follow at Landmark Convention Center (47 St. Helens Ave.) Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneyfuneralhome.com.
