Obituary James Merlin "Jimmy" Fredrickson Jimmy was born to Martin and Addie Biner Fredrickson on December 19,1926 in Tacoma, WA. He passed away April, 15, 2016. He graduated from Stadium HS in 1945. By that time he had already begun working as a call boy for the Northern Pacific Railroad while still a high school student. He moved up the line of progression to telegraph operator, train dispatcher, chief dispatcher, and finally Transportation Assistant for the BNSF. He met Mom on the job at the McCarver Street Station. He retired after 39 years at only 55 years of age. His love for the railroad and his artistic eye with a camera made him one of the foremost authorities on railroading. He was also the author of three books on life on the railroad, with each page featuring a railroad photo and a personal story to go with it. Dad was also the Scoutmaster of Troop 118 of Washington School, one of the most active scout troops of its time, where he led the lads on many backcountry hiking adventures at Mt Rainier. Dad was about as rabid a UW Husky Football fan as you could ever find. He held season tickets for many years. He volunteered his services to anyone that needed a hand. Washington State High School Swimming and the Wilson swim team were among his favorite activities. Jimmy is survived by Cereta, his wife of 68 years, his children James (Eileen), Timothy of New York City, and Kimberly of Tacoma. He also had five grandchildren, John Berger (Tina) of Long Island, NY, Eric (Amanda) of Tacoma, Jamie Liebert (Jeff) of Burlington, WA, Julie Arnold (Ricky) of Gig Harbor, and Timothy (Keahi) of Hilo, HI, and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial will take place May 13 at 3:00 PM at a location yet to be announced. Donations in James M. Fredrickson's honor may be made to the Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association.
