Obituary Jacob "Jack" Francis Schlumpf passed away in the loving embrace of the Lord and the watchful eyes of his family on Sunday, January 30 of complications of COPD at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite Morrisette Schlumpf; his brother, Frederick; his parents; and his brother-in-law, Don Grish. He leaves his brothers, William (Kathleen) and Michael (Kathy), and his sister, Rosa Grish. Jack also leaves his five children: Jacob, Jr. (Pamela McMahan), Daniel, Margene, Julie and Marty (Julie) and four grandchildren: Zachary Schlumpf, Erin Schlumpf, Brightin Schlumpf and Katelyn Mathews (Josh), three brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack was born in Tacoma on Feb. 1, 1927, the first of five children of Frank Jacob Schlumpf and Helen Exner Schlumpf. Growing up on family farms in the river valleys of Enumclaw and Fife instilled in Jack an amazing work ethic. Graduating first in his Fife High School Class of 1945, Jack also excelled on the athletic fields, lettering in four varsity sports. His leadership and determination drove his service in the U.S. Army; he enlisted in1945 as a Private, was selected for Officer Candidate School, and served in Korea. After 20 years in the Army Reserve, Jack retired as a Major. In 1948 Jack and Marguerite married and started a family in Fife, later moving up the hill to Milton. He worked in the door and wood products industry, and in 1960 opened his own business, Allied PreHung Door, Inc., in Fife. As a result of Jack's intelligence, tenacity, great employees, and Marguerite's steady hand, the business prospered and became legendary for great products and great service for 25 years. Jack loved his family first and foremost, but he also loved the mountains and waters of the Pacific Northwest. He was an avid fisherman, and loved casting into the Puyallup, the Coho Charters at Westport and his trips to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Through his true grit, balanced with a great sense of humor, "Action Jackson" inspired everyone who knew him. Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 7 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Parish, 2305 54th Ave., Fife. Rosary is at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00. Reception follows in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to St. Martin of Tours Parish Renovation Fund in Fife. Thank you, Dad, for always being such a generous, loving provider. . .we love you.
