Obituary Irene Edna Patnode Born April 13, 1914 in South Bend, Washington, Irene died peacefully on July 21, 2007. She was the daughter of James and Nellie MacWilliam and the wife of Wallace Joseph Patnode, all of whom preceded her in death. Her 3 brothers, Fraser, David, and Robert MacWilliam and her two sisters, Mary Penttila and Eva Jackson also preceded in her death. Irene was a cosmetologist and the manager of the Beauty School in Seattle where she met and married Wally. Together they traveled throughout Washington and Oregon selling for Western Auto Supply and finally settled in Port Angeles, WA. In 1949 they moved to Tacoma, WA and purchased the Western Auto Supply store on 38th and Yakima. In addition to working along side Wally in the store six days a week, Irene became fully involved in the local community through the Holy Rosary Mother's Club, the Lincoln Lady Lions Club, and the Orthopedic Guild of Tacoma. In 1956 they purchased a lot and soon after built a cabin on Treasure (Reach) Island in Mason County. This became the hub of activity for all of the holiday celebrations, a gathering place for friends and family, and the only vacation destination for years to come. She was a lover of all sports and would often be seen with her portable radio next to her ear. She was particularly thankful to her many caregivers especially Terry and Pam. Irene is survived by her 2 sons; David (Marianne) residing in Auburn, WA and J. Scott Patnode residing in Spokane, WA. In addition, Irene had 4 grandchildren ?" Timothy (Kate), Brian, Stephen, and Elizabeth (Anthony) Cotter and one great-grandchild, Kingston P. Cotter. She will truly be missed by her family and her many friends. Services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma, WA at 11:00am.
