Irene Keely

Obituary Irene Keely passed into the arms of her heavenly father on October 4, 2010. She was born January 12, 1912 in Tacoma to Joseph and Vera (Ehnat) Ribar. A graduate of Lincoln High School, her exceptional math skills moved her quickly into a successful professional career. Irene worked for a stock broker through the crash of 1929. Later she began work for the GR Kirk Company. As a young and independent woman, she traveled the continent, directing operations and managing the delivery of Christmas trees worldwide. Following World War II, on December 27, 1947, Irene married her long time friend and soul mate, Byron D. Keely at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tacoma. Together they raised four children while founding and developing his company, Keely Appraisal Corporation. She was an active athlete. She loved both watching and participating in almost any sport. She spent many happy summers on the beach with her family at their Hood Canal home. In their later years, Irene and Byron loved to travel and enjoyed many trips around the country and abroad. Irene was a woman of deep faith and a devoted Catholic. She was a long time member of Saint Patrick Parish. She was also an active participant and past president of both YLI and the Catholic Woman's Club. Irene leaves behind her four children; Colleen, Kevin (Carla), Patrick (Cheryl) and Kerry, grandchildren, great grandchildren and countless other family and friends. Irene is preceded in death by her dear husband Byron (October 5, 2004), brothers Joe and Andy Ribar and numerous loved ones and relatives. Irene wished to convey her love for those she knew, and has left behind. Her gentle, loving spirit will be with us all. Vigil services will be Thursday, October 7th, at 7PM at St. Patrick's Church, Tacoma. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00a.m. Friday October 8th at St Patrick's, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church.
