Helen Lavone Umbriaco

Obituary Helen L. (Woods) Umbriaco Born July 23, 1914 in Tacoma, WA and passed April 19, 2013 in Puyallup, WA, 3 months short of her 99th birthday. Helen was born to May Lenore Bole and Henry Woods and spent most of her childhood living in Seattle. She moved to Tacoma to live with her Grandma Bole as a teenager where she attended McCarver Jr. High and shortly afterward met her future husband, Harry Umbriaco. They married on October 19, 1929 and had 3 children. She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, 3 sisters, her husband and her eldest son, Bob. She is survived by Bob's daughter, Genny Montena; Jack (Marge) Umbriaco and their daughter, Cheryl Van Meter; her daughter, Jean (Tom) McCormick and their daughters, Loni (Ed) Markum, Debbie (Denny) Apple and Kathy (Rich) Severson; 12 great-grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of St. Rita Catholic Church. A special thanks to Sister Kathleen for her many visits to Helen at her home and for all the prayers from the congregation which meant so much to her. Also, a special thanks to her neighbors, Jackie, Nikki and Britta, for checking on her daily which enabled her to live independently. She was also proud of the 5,782 baby caps she started crocheting when she was 90 that were donated to the preemies born in area hospitals and throughout the U.S. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 10:30am at St. Rita Catholic Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rita Catholic Church or St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Grandma, you were much loved and will forever be missed.
