Obituary Helen Elizabeth Laba Helen Elizabeth (Susany) Laba, who recently celebrated her 97th birthday, died peacefully in her Tacoma home on Monday, April 28, 2014, with her daughters and hospice nurse at her side. She was born on March 22, 1917, in Miami, Arizona, lived there briefly, then moved to Tacoma for the rest of her life. She attended Lincoln High School, where she studied business courses, which led to several office jobs after graduation. In 1943 she married Joseph Laba, a carpenter, and they had two daughters - Marianne and Barbara. She stayed at home until they were grown, then worked for the U.S. Post Office until retiring. She enjoyed reading, music and traveling. Two of her favorite trips were to New York City and Cape Cod. Cannon Beach, Oregon was a frequent destination. Helen is survived by her daughters Marianne, and Barbara (Robert) Dunning; and her grandsons, Michael and Alan. She is also survived by her niece, Linda (Mike) Roberts; and nephews, Mike (Laurie) Patrick and Jerry Patrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Laba; her mother, Mary Patrick; her father, Matt Susany; and her brother, Joe Patrick. There will be a Funeral Mass for immediate family only on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tacoma. Donations are suggested to Franciscan Hospice.
