June 14, 1919 — February 18, 2017

Obituary Harold Rome 06/14/1919 - 02/18/2017 Harold Rome was born to Joseph and Rose Rome in Tacoma, Washington at St. Joseph Hospital. He attended all of his public education in Tacoma, graduating from Stadium High School in 1937. Attending the University of Washington until World War II began, Harold served as a riveter on military aircraft at Boeing for the war effort. Following the war, he and his brother, Ben started the Rome Company in Tacoma, a residential and commercial construction company. Several well-known buildings in Pierce County were built by Rome Construction. In 1946, Harold's parents were shopping at Woolworth's Department Store in Seattle and met Harold's future wife, Reta Weinstein. They found out that she was from Vancouver, B.C. and soon after, Harold and Reta were dating. They were married at Schara Tzedeck synagogue in Vancouver in 1947. Reta returned to the states after their marriage and became active in the Tacoma Jewish community. Harold continued in the construction business with his brother. During the 1950's, Harold and Reta had 3 children: Daniel, Shelley and Barbara and lived in Fircrest. By the late 1960's, the Rome Company was awarded the contract and built Temple Beth El, the only Jewish synagogue in Pierce County. As members of the synagogue, Harold took great pride in the unique design and construction challenges of the building. In addition to co-owning a construction company and being a father, Harold also became the regional director for Navy League, a member of the Tacoma Elks Lodge and the Masonic order. Upon retiring in 1982, Harold and Reta moved to Las Vegas until Reta's passing in 2011. Harold was also preceded in death by their daughter, Shelley. He is survived by his son Daniel and daughter Barbara Aqua (David). Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 21st at 3 PM at Home of Peace Cemetery, 5421 Steilacoom Blvd SW in Lakewood, WA 98499.
