Obituary Harold E. McGowan Harold E. McGowan was born in York, ND on November 24, 1917 to Harley & Lucy McGowan. He passed away in Tacoma, WA on September 8, 2007. Harold graduated from York High School and spent time in the CCC's. Coming from the prairies of North Dakota he discovered the beauty of the mountains as he built trails and bridges in the National Parks of the northwest. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a radar jamming specialist in a B-29 Group stationed on the island of Tinian. Shortly after the war, he and Dorothy Whalen of York, ND were married. They moved from North Dakota to Los Angeles for a short time and then to Tacoma. Harold worked as a television technician until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed camping and bowling. After his retirement he earned his license as a Ham radio operator and spent many hours communicating with other "Hams" around the world. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; sons, Harvey (Kathy), Bob (Susie), Tom (Mary), Jeff (Jody) and daughter Colleen Adler. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph & Gerald and two infant siblings. Viewing will be on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 4pm ?" 8pm at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; interment at Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Franciscan Hospice Care or St. Vincent DePaul Society. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneyfuneralhome.com.
