Obituary Guy Edward Montgomery Died March 16 at age 90. Guy was born in Leavenworth WA to Guy and Alice Montgomery on May 3, 1921. Guy, a loving, kind and gentle man, spent most of his young life in Port Angeles, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1939 where he was captain of the ski team and played in the band. Music was his second language, as he played the piano, alto sax, clarinet and French horn. He played French horn in the Port Angeles Symphony and played the alto sax in various big bands. As a youth he earned money working as a caddy. Golf was a lifelong passion. He loved the Olympic Mountains, and in 1937 hiked and climbed the Bailey Range Traverse, a 64 mile hike/climb with 17,000 feet of elevation gain. He was also one of the first to climb Mt. Constance. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Fernandes, in 1941 and together they lived a full and happy life raising their five children: Marsha Vadala, Jeff (Sharon), Connie Condon (Dave), Susan Bustard (John) and Greg (Terri). Guy was very handy with tools and built furniture and a ski boat of which he was quite proud. One of his favorite things to do was take the family out for a picnic and a day of waterskiing. Guy worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a sales representative and was transferred from Port Angeles to Seattle and then to Tacoma. After retirement from the railroad, he and Virginia bought and operated Toziers Florist in Port Angeles until returning to Tacoma. Virginia died in 1997 after an extended illness. Guy married Janey Hankins, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. She learned how to play golf, he learned how to become a birder and together they enjoyed their family and friends, traveling, their home and the arts. Guy is survived by his wife Janey, his brother Don, his five children, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his first wife Virginia, granddaughter Julie Vadala, three sisters and a brother. Special thanks to Tobey Jones and Franciscan Hospice for their compassionate care of Guy. A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 12:10 on March 29 at St. Leo Church, 710 South 13th, Tacoma 98405.
