Obituary Gladys Miller Gladys Miller went home to be with our Lord on April 8, 2006 in Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. Miller was born November 28, 1910 in Yelm, Washington to parents Emery and Annie McLaughlin Whitlatch. The family moved to Butte, Montana in 1914. She graduated from Butte High School and Montana Normal School in Dillon, Montana. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Eastern Montana College. Her first teaching assignment was at Highland School near Butte, Montana. She taught first and second grade in Melrose, Montana from 1947 to 1952 and in Winifred, Montana from 1952 to 1976. She retired from teaching in 1976 and moved to Tacoma, Washington. She is survived by her children Joan and Frank Doherty, Tacoma, Jim Sawyer, Denver, Colorado, Sharon and Garde Peterson, Billings, Montana, and Douglas Miller, Newport, Washington, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Bill Sawyer, sisters Mary Patterson, Ellen Jones and Rhoda Lewis, and one brother, Billy Whitlatch. Mrs. Miller instilled the love of reading in her children and grandchildren and hundreds of children whom she taught. Education and continual learning was an important part of her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was very proud of her family. The family wishes to thank her many friends at The Village Retirement Center. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 9:00 am, April 11, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Gladys Miller scholarship fund, P.O. Box 109, Winifred MT 59489.
