Obituary Gerald Thomas Van Horne Gerald "Jerry" Van Horne died Saturday, December 3, 2011. He was born in Tacoma, WA on February 26, 1943 to Thomas and Marguerite. Jerry graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Washington State University before joining the King County Sheriff's department where he served for 26 years as a patrol officer, detective and sergeant. While on the job, he earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Puget Sound. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed attending classic car shows and rod runs with his brother, Jim. In retirement, he and his wife, Shirley, took a second home in Sun City, AZ and traveled around the area extensively with friends and family. He loved visiting with his two sons, Brian and Doug, and his two granddaughters, Elle and Cate. In idle hours he was rarely found without a good mystery novel in hand. Jerry was preceded by his father, mother and brother. He is survived by his wife, two sons, daughter-in-law, Britt, two granddaughters, and his loyal dog, Sammy.
