Obituary Gerald Peter Berscheidt Gerald Peter Berscheidt born August 1, 1924, in Ellinwood, Kansas, passed away September 23, 2008 in Auburn. He grew up in Kansas, then served in Army during World War II in both Europe and Africa and was stationed in Fort Lewis. After his military service, he lived in Orting, then Tacoma where he owned Jerry's Tavern in South Tacoma, and then in Algona for 11 years. He began his career as a Field Auditor with the State of Washington in 1973 and retired after nearly 30 years to Yakima because of his love of fishing. He returned to Tacoma 6 years ago. He has been a member of the Eagles, the VFW and the American Legion and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Norma of 59 years, parents, Henry and Mary Berscheidt, 1 brother and 2 sisters and is survived by children: Jackie (Steve) Poyorena, Mary Berscheidt, and Dennis and Henry Berscheidt, all of the Tacoma area; 7 seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00 am, September 27, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 pm, September 26, 2008, at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Family suggests memorials be made to Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma.
