Obituary GEORGENE "JEAN" MARY BALDASARE GILICH Jean was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 22, 1929, and passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital, Gig Harbor on December 13, 2010. She was the daughter of John and Rhoada (Vaughan) Smith. Jean followed her older sister Agnes to Tacoma during World War II. She met and married Phillip Baldasare, raising two sons in Fircrest. Jean was business minded and supported the family in their business ventures, one of which was Southside Motors. Jean and Phil built "Vista Palms" in 1960 "a state of the art" apartment building on Yakima Avenue in Tacoma. She was widowed in 1970 and went to work for Pierce County. In 1975 she married John Gilich and moved to Gig Harbor, WA. She retired from the Pierce County Auditor's Office as supervisor of the Marriage License Bureau. Into retirement, she continued to manage the Vista Palms. She always had a great way of "making things happen" and getting things done. Jean is fondly remembered by all of her family. She is predeceased by husband Phillip Baldasare, son Phillip Jr., and brothers Loyal, Cecil and Richard. She is survived by husband John Gilich, son Mark Baldasare (Daphne), grand children Mark, Jordan, Preston, Bethany, Micah, Johanna and Jenna Baldasare, sister Agnes Wasalino, Virginia Staley (Max), Shirley Journey (Dean), and brother John Smith (Billie) and numerous nieces and nephews in the Mid-West and in Washington, including Steven Wasalino and Judi Streepy of Tacoma. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 22, 2010, 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Gig Harbor with a reception following. The Rosary will be recited prior to Mass at 10:00 am, also at the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
