Obituary George A. Nielsen George was born on August 25, 1955 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. George worked as an Alaskan fisherman on the F/V Decision for nearly 20 years, followed by 10 years as a Merchant Marine and First Mate for Dunlap Towing Company towing barges to Hawaii. For the last 3 years he worked for Cardinal Glass in Chehalis as a mechanical maintenance engineer. He is survived by his partner, Margaret (Peggy) Ratcliffe; his step-children, Brandon and Shanna Dickerson; his mother, Margaret Gordon; his siblings, Terri & Mike Herring, Diane Mollet, Chuck & Lin Nielsen, Joan & Carl Young, and Sheryll & Brian Lomheim. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Jessie Herring (and children: Connor, Myca, Jessa, and Jonah); Brandy & Jason Ong (and children: Cole and Lori Christian), Jedidah & Stephanie Mollet, Casey, Shauna, Chanon, and Chakhrit Nielsen, Barbie, Heather, Tim and Mara Young, and Douglas and Elizabeth Lomheim. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 7:00pm at Gaffney Funeral Home, Tacoma, WA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 9:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Tacoma, WA followed by a reception open to the public.
