Obituary Dr. George A. Delaney passed away at his home on May 22, 2005 at the age of 66. George was born April 26, 1939 and raised in Tacoma, Washington, where he attended Bellarmine High School. He attended the University of Santa Clara, where he received a B.A. in History in 1 961 and a Masters in History in 1962. In 1966, George began what would become a 27 year career at Skagit Valley Community College as a History instructor. He went on to serve as Associate Dean for Academic Education from 1974 to 1982 and in 1982 was promoted to Executive Dean-Educational Services. In 1989, he became Vice President - Educational Services at Skagit. In 1990, he received a doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Washington. In 1993, George became President of Pierce College, from which he retired in 1999. George was a powerful and passionate leader, a compelling speaker and a committed administrator who worked well with people of all types. Most importantly, he was a loving and caring father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Mary, his sons George (wife Christian) and Michael, his sister Eileen Ferrua (husband John), his brothers John (wife Jane) and Jim (wife Greta) and his granddaughter Gianna, in whom he took great joy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 2, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tacoma. The vigil service will be Wednesday, June 1st, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to United Way of Skagit County, PO Box 451, Burlington, WA 98233-0451 or a charity of your choice.
