George Peter Boscovich

Obituary George Peter Boscovich Born September 28, 1916 in Old Town - Tacoma, WA; died at 3AM Dec. 15th, 2011 at home, holding hands with Yvonne, his wife of 32 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, his four siblings, and his first wife Margaret. George was a generous, kind, loving man.. professional and trustworthy in his business dealings - when instead of contracts - deals were made with the shake of hands and a reputation of honesty. George lived his entire life in Tacoma, was baptized at St. Patrick's Church, went to school there, and then to Bellarmine and Bartell's Business College. He joined Tacoma Asbestos Co. in 1936, engaged in the industrial and marine insulation contracting business. George became managing partner and employed construction workers in Tacoma, throughout Washington and Alaska. Doing jobs such as the ceilings in the Tacoma Dome - pipe lagging, etc - aboard new Washington state ferries. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, holding many positions, and served as Grand Knight in 1948/Member of the SABS/the Tacoma Elks/Associated General Contractors/Tacoma Chamber of Commerce/Bellarmine Boosters/Tacoma Serra Club/Tacoma Country Club, and Tacoma Yacht Club. His first love was, of course, family---1953, a good year, a move to their newly built home on Steilacoom Lake, and the adoption of Diane. Two years later they adopted Marc to complete their family. George was an avid fisherman since childhood - at 10 & 12 he and brother Peter, who kept their small home-built rowboat tied up under the dock at the foot of Carr St. would row out into the Sound - sometimes tieing onto a log boom as it went by. They would fish, then row home with their catch for dinner. In 1977 his wife Margaret died. In 1978 he met a widow, Yvonne Besancon, and they married in 1979 and had 32 wonderful years together. Diane had married Jeff Greaves in 1977, and in 1980 Kyle was born. In 1983 Erin was born. Today they are both happily married, and Kim and Kyle presented us with a beautiful great-granddaughter "Isabella". George is survived by his wife Yvonne, daughter Diane (Jeff Greaves), son Marc, grandchildren Kyle Greaves (Kim), great-granddaughter Isabella, granddaughter Erin (Corey Wilson), and many nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank Clare, George's Hospice nurse, for her guidance, all of the competent, caring staff of Frank Tobey Jones, but especially two angels, Kim and Hope, for their extraordinary tender, loving care of George the last few days of his life. He loved them both and told them so. His last day he was alert and very funny. He would smile and tell everyone who came in -- family, staff, and nurses -- that he loved them. He played kissy face with me all day and night while I sat holding his hand. I would tell him I loved him, was so proud to be his wife, and would miss him terribly until we were together again. Around midnight he started to repeat, "I have to go home. I have to go home" and I told him, "we want you to go home, to be with God. Close your eyes, go to sleep, and wake up in a beautiful place." He took his last breath at 3 AM. George will be missed by all the family, but I am so grateful to our merciful God that He allowed George to have a happy, peaceful, painless, joyful final day and death. It gives me wonderful images and memories to keep in my heart. Thank you Father. Interment arrangements are by Gaffney Funeral Home. Viewing for family and friends will be available Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 from 2 till 8 PM at Gaffney Funeral Home, 1002 S. Yakima, Tacoma. The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 23rd, at 11AM at St. Patrick's Church, 1001 North "J" Street, Tacoma, with reception/lunch to follow in the church hall. Memorial donations can be made to St. Patrick's Church or the food bank of your choice.
