Obituary George A. Baird November 23, 1920 - February 10, 2010 Dad was born to Abe and Hazel Baird in Minnesota, the first of 9 children. At the age of 9 the family moved to Everett Washington, there he grew into manhood and joined the Army at the age of 17. While stationed at Ft. Lewis he met Jean Scalara and they were married November 29, 1941, eight days before Pearl Harbor. Dad went off to war with the 3rd Division, landing in North Africa. From there he went to Sicily and then Italy before coming home. Six years later he found himself in the Korean War, where he landed at Pusan. He was very proud to wear his uniform. He retired from the army an E-8, 1st Sergeant after 20 years of service. Too young to retire he went to work for Boeing, finally retiring in 1961. He and Mom moved into Twin Lakes and took up golf, which they both loved. Dad also loved to fish and he and his brothers had several fishing trips together. Dad loved to spend time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. Dad was preceded in death by his wife Jean of 64 years, his parents Abe and Hazel Baird, brother Larry Baird, and sister Laura Livramento. He is survived by son George (Cathie) Baird, daughter Lesley (Greg) Edin, grandchildren, Vince (Dana) Baird, Angela (Jeff) Sorenson, Kelly (Patrick) O'Horo, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Jacobsen, Norma Simmons, and Romona Steinbaugh, brothers Art Baird, Harry Baird, and Ron Baird. Our Dad, grandfather, and great grandfather will be missed and will never be forgotten. Viewing will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2010 from Noon to 5:00 pm. Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 15, 2010, 7:00 pm at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 16, 2010, 10:30 am at St. Rita Catholic Church, Entombment at Calvary Cloisters. Please leave online condolences at www.GaffneyCares.com.
