Gene Patrick Hussey

May 28, 1935 — August 1, 2024

Together Again

Gene Patrick Hussey, 89, passed away on August 1, 2024, in Tacoma, WA.  Born on May 28, 1935, in Fond du Lac, WI, Gene led a life marked by devotion to service; both in his professional and personal spheres.

Gene’s early education was at St. Rita High School in Chicago, Il.  He furthered his education at Southern Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and met his future wife, Judith D. Kistner.  Their union was one of shared interests and deep companionship, enjoying activities like playing tennis, bridge, and hiking in the mountains; Gene also enjoyed running and cycling.

After serving honorably in the Marine Corp from 1954-1957, Gene embarked on a distinguished career with the United States Secret Service.  His role involved tackling forgery, counterfeit cases, and performing protection details for U.S. presidents and notable figures such as Pope John Paul II.

Gene was a man of faith.  He was an altar server while in school and continued to serve at Mass while in the Marine Corps, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a parishioner at St. Rita of Cascia, Holy Cross Church, and most recently at the Saturday Communion service at GenCare Lifestyle at Point Ruston.  Gene’s commitment to his community and faith were evident in every aspect of his life.

Gene is survived by his daughters, Megan Matthew (Scott), Erin Keller (Steve), and Kellyann Hussey; grandchildren Nathan, Duncan, Gordon, Emelia (Jacob Smith), Griffin, Fiona (Carlos Ceja), Mary Frances (Thomas Rumpza), Henry, Lillian, and Peter; great grandchildren Eloísa, Tatiana, Pia, and Daniel; his sister Patricia Hussey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy, his parents James P. Hussey and Florence E. (Boland) Hussey, siblings James, Thomas, and Joanne (Hussey) Hardy; niece Maureen (Hussey) Mims; granddaughter Eden Keller.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am at St. Aloysius Chapel at Bellarmine Preparatory School.  The committal with military honors will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2004 at 1:30pm at Tahoma National Cemetery.  Gaffney Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring Gene’s lifelong commitment to helping others.  Gene’s legacy of service, loyalty, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
