Obituary Freda Vollmer Michels Freda Michels, born on a wheat farm in Waitsburg, Washington on March 9, 1914, passed away in Tacoma, Washington on April 9, 2006. She was the daughter of Henry and Katherine McCall Vollmer, the wife of Lloyd Michels who preceded her in death in 2005. She is survived by two sons, Lee of Eugene, Oregon, and Andy (Maggi) of Gig Harbor, Washington. She is also survived by four grandchildren Lucas, Abby Calvo (Justin), Ben, and Adriane. Freda was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Washington State College and Eastern Washington College where she earned a degree in education. She taught school in Pasco, and Pullman where she met Lloyd. They were married on August 8, 1943. They lived in Richland, Washington and moved to San Jose, California in 1968. Freda continued her interest in education by grading high school English paper for other teachers. Freda was devoted to her family and served as the family historian. Her father donated the bell hanging in Kilworth Chapel at the University of Puget Sound. She remained interested in wheat farming and actively followed the crops on the family farm.
