Obituary Evelyn L. Butler Together Againl After 20 years of waiting up in Heaven, Jim has been reunited with his lifelong love. Evelyn was born in Egeland, N.D. on January 13, 1915 to Gladys and Charles Byer. She passed away on November 10,2010 in Gig Harbor at the age of95 after a brief illness. She graduated from Minot State Teachers' College and began her career teaching in a 1-room school house. In 1942 she married her childhood sweetheart and started her career as an officer's wife. They spent the next 25 years traveling the world courtesy of the USAF. They settled in Gig Harbor in 1967. Together they enjoyed family activities of hunting, fishing, target/skeet shooting, ham radio, astronomy society, and RV travel. Evelyn was an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Always an avid knitter and crafter, she kept busy providing items for multiple charities. She found joy in helping others throughout her life. Reading, playing cards, and following politics were other favorite pastimes. She moved into the Peninsula Retirement Community in 2008 where she thoroughly enjoyed an active life. Her greatest joy came from her family-as a Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Nana. She is survived by daughters, Mary Kay Johnson (Tom) and Diane Miller (Craig); grandchildren Mat Johnson (Marivi), Eric Johnson (Stella), Lara Wright (Brian), and Lori Gauthier (Rob); and great grandchildren Grace and Caleb Johnson, Aaron and Anna Johnson, and Porter Wright. Her passing has left a great void in our lives but we rejoice in her reunion with all her family in the glory of God. She will truly be missed by all her family and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 11:00 am with a reception following in the Parish Hall. Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church; Attn: Respect Life; 3510 Rosedale St. NW; Gig Harbor, WA 98335.
