Eva Louise Burke

October 18, 1936 — June 17, 2020

Eva Louise Burke, born October 18, 1936, passed away on June 17, 2020 at her home in Tacoma, where she resided since 1976.  Her sister Rebecca was at her side.

Eva was born in Fort Worth, TX to James and Sophie Baker, graduated from North Side High School in 1953 at the age of 16, and went to University of Texas, Austin and became a Registered Dietician. From there she went on to serve many hospitals and nursing homes in the United States.

Eva will be remembered for her creativity (she had written at least one birthday poem to everyone in the family), her sense of humor, and her abundant kindness and generosity. There were always people at her home during the holidays. On Christmas, she would make sure she had a Christmas stocking for everyone, and if she had a surprise guest, she would quickly figure something out so that they would feel included. It goes without saying, the same thing would happen on Easter.  She enjoyed watching football, camping, cooking (for everyone) and gambling, either at the casino or at her son’s house.

She is survived by her sister, Rebecca Baker, son Sam, daughter in law, Laurie, grandsons Joshua and James, and her daughter Katie, and granddaughter Madeleine. She is preceded in death by her husband William, and sons Matthew and Benjamin.

Mass was held at St John of the Woods Catholic Church in Tacoma, WA on 6/26/20. She has been interred at Calvary Cemetery next to her son Benjamin.
