Ernest Wesley Manning, Sr.

April 23, 1918 — July 9, 2007

Obituary Ernest Wesley Manning died a peaceful death on Monday, July 9th. He was born in Manango, ND on April 23, 1918. Ernie is survived by his three sons; Dood (Linda), David (Karen), Morry (Pam), and one daughter Colleen (Rich), eight grandchildren and their spouses and twenty-one great-grandchildren along with one terrific sister-in-law Marie Meyer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Florence, "Tiny". Ernie served in the US Army in WWII including the invasion of Okinawa. Upon his return, he began a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver for Teamsters Union Local 313. He was a life long member of the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174 and Fraternal Order of Eagles. After a long enjoyable career, Ernie and Tiny set off for many trips to Yuma, Arizona. They enjoyed hosting family and friends as well as spending time on the dance floor and playing cards. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with each of them. He absolutely loved Treasure Island and all the wonderful memories made there. The family would like to thank Phyllis and her family for loving him so much for the last 3 years and giving him back the happiness his heart had lost. A Graveside Service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Friday, July 13, 2007 at 10:00 am. Reception to follow at the Elks Lodge located at 6313 75th St. W., Lakewood, WA. Viewing will be on Thursday, July 12, 2007 from 4pm ?" 8pm at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel located at 1002 S. Yakima Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be set up for Ernie and donations can be made to the Florence "Tiny" Manning Memorial Fund, C/O Columbia Bank, 2424 Mildred St. W., Fircrest, WA 98466.
