Obituary Emily T. Charap, 88, of Ocean View Family Home, Tacoma, WA, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 after an extended illness. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 11, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Rosary will be recited Sunday, April 10, 2005 4:00 p.m. at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Emily Charap's name to Rainier School, Haddon Hall, P.O. Box 600, Buckley, WA 98321, or your favorite charity. Emily was born August 8, 1916 in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Kachinskas. Emily lived in Tacoma for 58 years. She married Alvin J. Charap on October 2, 1948 in Tacoma. She and her husband owned and operated Charap's Grocery on the corner of 30th and Stevens Street for over 30 years. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2003. Emily was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Tacoma, Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society and the Young Ladies Institute. She served as a Red Cross nurses aid during WWII. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law; John and JoAnn Charap, E. Wenatchee; daughter, Mary Jo Ohland, Davenport, IA; son, Lawrence Charap, Buckley; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bud Clark, Port Orchard; son, Michael Charap, Phoenix; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
