Obituary Emil "Mac" Victor McGonigal Born on Oct. 18, 1921 in Coytesville, New Jersey to John Joseph and Ellen Carlson McGonigal. Passed into the arms of God July 11, 2009 at his home in Patriot's Landing, DuPont, WA. Mac followed his wife Marian Rose Cahill McGonigal recently deceased on May 21, 2009. He is preceded in death by: his mother and father, Brothers Jack and Frank (Gloria) and nephew Frank Jr. He is survived by his loving children Terence Patrick (Suzette), Timothy Dennis, and Mary Denise along with three grandchildren Keats (April), Brandan (Shawnda) and Shannon (Dan), and niece Maureen Rivera. Through marriage Mac is survived by dozens of nieces and nephews in the Midwest and greater Chicago land area, as well as sister-in-law Mary Jane Cahill, and brother-in-law Gerald R. Cahill. Mac graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago, IL in 1939 as Class President and Valedictorian. The training was pragmatic as he enlisted into the Army. One of Mac's proudest moments was active duty at the landing in Normandy Beach on "D" Day. He was a member of the Signal Core serving a vital role of providing communications for the commanders of the invasion. Upon returning stateside Mac married his sweetheart Marian Rose Cahill at Mary Queen of Heaven parish in Cicero, IL on June 29, 1946. Their three children Terry, Timothy and Mary were born and baptized in Chicago, surrounded by their extended Irish Catholic family. Mac's Signal Core training was most useful for his civil employment as a Telecommunications Engineer with the Western Electric Co. Midway through his career, Mac and his family transferred and lived in Cupertino, California where he completed 38 years of continuous employment. In retirement, Mac's engineering skills were handy with the variety and number of new homes and locations in which he and Marian lived -= always the organizer. Their extensive travels included trips to Ireland, Europe, Alaska and the Caribbean. The warm Atlantic Ocean and calm tropical breezes were an allure for Mac and Marian spending the last ten years of retirement in Ocala, FL. In recent years, Mac's health required a move to Patriot's Landing, to be close to his daughter Mary. Mac enjoyed his year and a half befriending the staff and residents. His family is very appreciative for the exceptional care Mac received from the coordinated efforts of Franciscan Hospice and the staff of "The Landings" ?" Mac's home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church with a Viewing prior to Mass at 10:00 am. Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery.
