Ellen Ann (Hellenkamp) Evoy

Obituary Ellen Evoy passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2018. She was born in Tacoma, Washington on January 25, 1926, to Henry and Elfrieda Hellenkamp. Ellen attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from St. Leos High School, where she was the valedictorian for the class of 1944. She attended Seattle University for two years until she met Laurence Evoy, to whom she was married for 64 years until his passing in 2012. Ellen was a dedicated, involved and loving mom to her five children. She was active at St. Patrick's, Aquinas Academy and Bellarmine Prep including Philomathea Club, various parent boards and activities. It would be difficult to count the hours that Ellen spent transporting and supporting her children in their various endeavors. When she did have time to herself, she was a voracious reader and current events tracker. She was a gracious, thoughtful person who celebrated the visits of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren - always having appropriate toys ready for the youngest. Her home was unfailingly welcoming and loving. She was not unacquainted with onion sandwiches, M&M's, and the occasional video poker game. She loved travelling and enjoyed many wonderful trips with her husband, Larry. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry and infant son, John Gerard. She is survived by her only sibling, her beloved brother Hank Hellenkamp, and by her five children, Kevin Evoy (Mary) of Olympia, Kathleen Casey (Mark) of Spokane, Mary Egan (Joe) of Minneapolis, Patricia Evoy (Jim Funfar) of Auburn and Sheila Mallahan (Jim) of Seattle. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, soon to be 17 great-grandchildren, and her special nieces and nephews. Ellen's life will be celebrated in a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Friday, September 21, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 North J Street, Tacoma, WA 98403. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Patrick's School. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home
