Obituary Sister Norine Joseph Mulvey (Elizabeth Mulvey died on April 16, 2007. She was born in County Leitrim, Ireland in 1921. Sister Norine Joseph came to the United States in 1939 and professed her first vows in 1941. She dedicated her life to others living a committed life as a Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Her early years of ministry were spent caring for children in St. Joseph Orphanage in Spokane, Washington. She obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Gonzaga University. Sister Norine Joseph taught elementary school in Oregon and Washington. Graduates of St. Charles School have happy memories of Sister Norine Joseph being their first grade teacher and later their principal. After completing her Clinical Pastoral Education in the 1980's, Sister transitioned to Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Hospital. She was loved as a chaplain. When St. Francis Hospital opened in Federal Way, Sister ministered there as a chaplain. She was known for her compassionate healing care of patients, their families and the staff. Sister Norine Joseph was a person of humor and fun. She mastered much more than education, Sister Norine Joseph mastered life. She always enjoyed telling stories and jokes and always had a new joke for each person she met. She was artistic, articulate and entertaining. She was also prayerful and faith filled, a faithful friend?a friend to all. Sister Norine Joseph is survived by her sister Mary Doherty who lives in Ireland. She is also survived by her two nephews, Cyril Doherty and Desmond Doherty and their families. She will be greatly missed by her family of Franciscan Sisters, especially those who reside at St. Ann Convent. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:00 pm at St. Ann Convent, 6602 South Alaska Street, Tacoma, WA 98408. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will also be available from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at St. Ann Convent Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Ann Convent for the construction of a new chapel.
