Eileen Rose Toth

October 18, 1946 — October 18, 2014

Obituary Eileen Rose Toth Eileen was born October 18th, 1946, and passed away peacefully on October 18th, 2014 after a brave fight with metastatic breast cancer. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Amy Atkinson (Colin) and Katherine Murto (Justin); brothers, Thomas Toth (Dorothy) and Richard Toth (Susan). Eileen was also blessed to have six grandchildren; Isabella, Sophia, Ava, Olivia, Theodore, and Franklin. Eileen is also survived by her husband, Hari Alipuria, her partner of 15 years, who she had the joy to marry this past March. Eileen is preceded in death by her loving late husband Patrick Murto, who also lost his battle with cancer in 1998. Eileen was born in Phillipsburg, NJ to Lester and Rose Toth. She attended Phillipsburg High School and was her class valedictorian. She then attended Ursinus College in PA where she studied Pre-Medicine and graduated with honors. She was one of the first women to attend Harvard Medical School, where she graduated with honors in 1972. After working on the East Coast for a few years she moved to Vashon, WA where she met Pat, started her own practice, and started her family. Some of Eileen's many accomplishments include becoming the first female president of the Pierce County Medical Society, leading her daughter's girl-scout troop for many years, and attending PLU after her retirement to study Anthropology and Religion. She also selflessly entered a study at UW Medicine in hopes that future generations would benefit from the research done on her specific type of cancer. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 12:10pm at St. Leo Catholic Church in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneycares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, (253) 572-6003.
