Obituary Sister Eileen Glavin, O.P. 1928-2015 Sister Eileen Marie Glavin died peacefully Sunday May 10, 2015 at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle. She was born in Bremerton WA and the family moved to Seattle in 1937. With her parents, Marvin Glavin and Genevieve Conklin and her older brother Bernard, she lived in Seattle where she attended Holy Rosary School in West Seattle. After graduation she entered the Tacoma Dominican Religious Community in 1947, and professed vows January 22, 1949. Sister received a degree in Education from Central Washington State College and Seattle University. She then taught in Washington and California Parochial Schools for 25 years. (St. Francis, Bakersfield , St. Paul, Yakima; St. Andrew, Ellensburg; St. Patrick, Tacoma; St. Edward, Our Lady of the Lake, and Mount Virgin, Seattle) She was an outstanding primary teacher whose instructional skills were matched by concern for her students, and her loving kindness to them and their parents. Following her very successful teaching career, Sister Eileen Marie began ministry to retired Sisters at Lady of the Lake Convent in Seattle and at Marymount Infirmary, Tacoma. Her ministry there included care of her mother, Genevieve. Later Sister Eileen Marie aided in the care of retired Sisters at St. Joseph Residence and St. Bernadette Convent in Seattle. Her ministry included volunteer work with the infants at Mt. St. Vincent Intergenerational Learning Center. Throughout her life she demonstrated great compassion for others and dedicated service. She took great care with details and was always ready to help as needed. After failing health brought Sister Eileen Marie to St. Joseph Residence, she continued to grace the lives of her visitors through her kindness, gentleness, compassion and sense of humor. In her final days, members of her Tacoma Dominican Community, as well as many caring friends and personnel from St. Joseph Residence attended her passing. Sister Eileen Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Genevieve and her brother Bernard, and is survived by her Tacoma Dominican Community and cousins. The Vigil will be Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 7:00pm and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00am. Both services will be at St. Joseph Residence, 4800 - 37th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00am.
