Edward Bergstrom

March 21, 1919 — December 4, 2013

Obituary Edward Bergstrom, age 94, died December 4, 2013. He was born and raised in Tacoma, having graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. He started his career at Meadowsweet Dairies (Foremost Dairy) at age 19. The job was for only 4 days but because of his work ethics lasted 45 years. During World War II he was drafted into the Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. Most of his military time was spent "defending the West Coast from invasion" in Port Angeles. He loved baseball. He played catcher for Russ Michael's Service Station team in the Twilight League. As an adult, he managed, played catcher, and center field for Meadowsweet. He loved to team bowl until arthritis in his hands got the better of him.   He married Helen, the only woman he ever loved, in 1942 and remained married to her for 60 plus years until her death in 2006. They raised two daughters, Sandra and Carol and his stepdaughter, Gloria. Edward and Helen later adopted their grandson Martin, who managed to give them many laughs and gray hair.   He is survived by his children, Sandra (Rod), Carol and Martin; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his sister, June; and brothers, William, Walter and David. The family extends a special thanks to Roxanne Tomlin whose loving care gave him the gift of remaining in the family home until his death. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00am at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneycares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
