Obituary EDNA M. WORKMAN 1925-2010 A memorial gathering for Edna M. Workman, 85, of Tacoma, who passed away on Aug. 15, following a short illness, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the VFW Post 969 on McKinley Avenue. The owner of the Partnership restaurant on McKinley for several years, she was born to Edward and Johanna Nolan on July 27, 1925 in Wing, N.D., one of eight children that included a sister, Agnes, and six brothers, Ted, George, John, Phil, Jim and Ken. The family left their farm in 1937 and moved to Brooks, Oregon. On that trip, Edna celebrated her 11th birthday. She grew up in Oregon and married the late Loren James Workman on Oct. 30, 1944 in Burbank, Calif. During WWII she worked as a welder in the Portland, Ore. shipyards. They had three children, Kathleen, David and Frank. Kathleen and David were both born on Christmas Day, three years apart, in 1946 and 1949, respectively. Edna worked in the restaurant and tavern business for many years, holding jobs at the old Towers and Ben Dew's in Tacoma, the Shoreline in Gig Harbor, the Talarney Inn, Cloverleaf Tavern and finally bought the McKinley Avenue establishment she called the Partnership. She sold the restaurant and retired in 1988. She remained active in the VFW, and was a die-hard Seahawks and Mariners fan. Edna is survived by her three children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus her brother, John and sister, Agnes, both living in Oregon, and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests remembrances to VFW Post 969.
