Edith Luise Schreieck

June 17, 1937 — January 17, 2008

Obituary Edith Luise Schreieck born to Kurt & Mari Gygas in Augsburg, Germany on June 17th, 1937 lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on January 17, 2008 after a valiant year long struggle. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wilfred Schreieck, her son, Patrick Schreieck and her daughter Cynthia Whitley and spouse Todd. She leaves behind 5 grandsons, Brandon, Aaron, Maxwell, George and Garrett. She is also survived by her eldest sister Lisl Gygas and numerous other relatives still living in Germany. Edith was a dutiful "Army Wife' having endured 17 moves across the globe before finally settling down in Lakewood, Washington where she soon joined St. John Bosco's Parish in 1975. She spent the next 25 years in the retail jewelry industry working her way up to senior management. After retiring, Edith's joys were spending time with her family, helping to landscape, garden and decorate her son's and daughter's homes. Her greatest happiness came from caring for her grandchildren and much time was spent with them instructing them in her faith. Edith was also an active St. John Bosco parish member where she took part in several ministries, including becoming a Eucharistic Minister, volunteer work with St. Claire Hospital, serving on the board of Our Lady of Guadalupe Maternity Center, St Vincent's DePaul's Society and a member of the parish's cenacle group. Per her wishes, in lieu of flowers, Edith would ask that donations be made to Priests for Life and Food for the Poor. What will be missed most is her carefree laugh, joyous smile, honesty and integrity. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday January 21st, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. John Bosco Catholic Church followed by a reception. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am also at the church. Interment is scheduled for 1:30pm at Calvary Cemetery. Please leave condolences online at www.GaffneyCares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
