Obituary MICHAELSON, EDITH IRENE Edith Irene (Eigner-Crotty) Michaelson was born on March 7, 1932 in Portland, Oregon, was raised in Bremerton, Washington and passed away unexpectedly at her vacation property in Desert Hot Springs, California on Good Friday, April 10, 2009. Edith, known as Edie to her many friends, moved to Tacoma to attend St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1950 and lived in Tacoma for over 50 years. Edie graduated as a surgical registered nurse and spent her entire career in the nursing profession. She was particularly proud of being the first nursing director of the newly opened St. Joseph's outpatient surgery clinic. She also worked as a surgical registered nurse at Puget Sound Hospital, Hawaii, and TASC. Edie married William J. Crotty, Jr. in 1954 and together they had seven children, Sheila (Patrick), Dan (Marla), Sean (Mona), Brian (Cindy), Colleen, Jim and Kelly (Dustin). Edie married Delbert Michaelson in 1991 and gained 4 step-children Brent (Melinda), Steve, Paul and Julie (Dan). It was a good thing she really loved Christmas and birthdays! Edie had a passion for reading. She loved flowers and gardening. In her later years, mom's favorite pastime was going to the casinos. Heaven cent was her favorite! She was a member of AORN, Elks, Red Hat Society and the "Out to Lunch Bunch". Edie was predeceased in death by her husbands, Bill and Del and is survived by her 7 children, 4 step-children, 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Mike, Bob, Pat, Gretchen and Virginia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was known for her strong and feisty spirit and especially for her unbounded and unconditional love for her family and friends. We will miss her more than words can possibly say. There will be a Rosary at Gaffney Funeral Home on April 30th at 7:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on May 1st at 12:10 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church. There will be a private family service at a later date to spread her remains on the waters of Puget Sound in accordance with her wishes.
