Dorothy C Sanborn

Dorothy C. Sanborn (nee Downey) passed peacefully on January 25,2025 at the age of 97. Dorothy and her late husband John moved to Tacoma from Havertown, Pa. over 45 years ago. Dorothy was born in Havertown, Pa. in 1927 and graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls at Moylan, Pa. in 1944. She is the sole surviving child of Jeremiah and Margaret Downey. Her siblings Marge Ryan, Claire FitzGerald, Jeremiah Jr. and James Downey all predeceased her. She has many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a library clerk for the Pierce County Library for 15 years and has been long retired.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John M Sanborn, Sr. and her son, Robert T., her grandson John M. III, and two daughters-in-law, Patricia and Cathleen Sanborn.

She is survived by her children John, Jr. (Aileen), Stephen Sr., Kevin (Kate), Thomas (Frida) and Mary Sanborn. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 43 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul will be offered by Fr Michael Sautner at 11:00 AM, on Friday January 31, 2025. at St Mary's Catholic Church in Tacoma, Washington. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma.
